Memorable phone numbers, plus cheap international calls - we've been providing customers the best value phone services since 1999
Do I need to get another line installed to receive calls on my new non-geographical number?
No. We connect the 0845, 0844 or 0800 number to your existing line; callers can dial either your normal phone number or the new non-geographical number (NGN). Both ways you will receive the call as normal.
How much do calls cost from an 0845, 0843, 0844 or 0800 number?
This is a common question that we’re asked – outgoing calls cannot be made on a NGN, they only carry inbound calls, so you will not receive a bill from Planet Numbers for the phone calls you make.
How much does it cost to phone an 0845, 0843 or 0844 number?
Calling an 0845 number costs 2p per minute daytime, and 0.5ppm at all other times when called from a standard BT landline. Most residential customers now get calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers included in their monthly inclusive minute bundles, so are effectively free to call. Other networks, including calls from mobiles may vary.
There are many price brackets for 0844 and 0843 numbers; from 0.5p per minute, rising in half pence increments to 5p per minute. 0843 and 0844 numbers cost the same to call at all times of the day. However, if you are a BT residential customer that benefits from one of their inclusive talk plans, calls to 0845 and 0870 numbers are included (with a fair usage policy) and are free of charge to call.
And what about 0871 and 0872 numbers? How much do they cost to call?
0871 and 0872 numbers cost between 6p a minute and 10p a minute to call from a BT landline. Again, like 0844 numbers, it is difficult to tell the cost to call from the actual number itself, but have price bands of 6p, 7p, 8p, 9p and 10p a minute. They are always charged at the same rate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We take advantage of these different price bands to offer the cheapest international calls to all the countries around the world.
From 1st July 2015, calls to 084, 087, 09 and 118 numbers will be charged in a new way. The price for calling these numbers will be broken in to two clear parts:
1. An Access Charge – this will be charged by the company you use to make phone calls with
2. A Service Charge – this is the part of the price of the call that goes to the network operator providing the service.
You can read more about these changes on our website, where we’ve provided information about the Access Charges being charged by the various phone companies, or at ukcalling.info, an Ofcom funded site.

Also, in another change happening at the same time, 0800 numbers will become free to call from mobiles, as they already are from most landlines. This is fantastic news for all consumers, and businesses alike – if people know it’s free to call your business’ 0800 number, all the barriers are removed from dialling these numbers, and will result in more new enquiries for your product or service. Why not try one FREE for 30 days from Planet Numbers?
How many times can I redirect my number, and is there a fee to do so?
For maximum flexibility you can redirect your number as often as you like, instantly, by using the Planet Numbers Call Manager. Redirecting your number is completely free of charge.
What about international callers?
Ofcom (formerly Oftel) have requested that all international carriers make all UK numbers diallable from overseas, but it is up to the international carriers to do the work involved to make this possible; therefore we offer no guarantees on this front.
What would happen if Planet Numbers goes out of business? Would I lose my numbers?
If Planet Numbers did go out of business for any reason (we’ve been trading for over 15 years, and we are confident this is highly unlikely) the liquidators would be called in, and they would sell on our service contracts to another service provider. They would also take over our contact telephone numbers and email addresses. Your numbers would continue to work – you would simply pay another service provider.
Questions about cheap international calls?
Please see our ‘cheap calls FAQ‘ pages for common questions we’re asked about making overseas calls.
All rates quoted are for calls originating from a BT landline. Calls from other networks and from mobiles vary, and it is recommended that you check with your provider the cost of dialling.
