0333, 0330, and 0345 Numbers Explained

16th November 2019

We’re all aware of free 0800 numbers, but many of us aren’t so aware that other 08 numbers, such as 0870 numbers, cost a premium to call.

In 2007, Ofcom launched 03 numbers, in an effort to make things clearer for consumers. These include 0300, 0330, 0333, and 0345 numbers.

Many of us are still unaware of exactly what 03 numbers are, and how much they cost to call.

Read on as we explain exactly how these numbers work and why your business should have one.0345 numbers

What are 0333, 0330 and 0345 numbers?

The 03 numbers were introduced to allow businesses to have a single number for customers to call that was not specific to any particular location.

It means that businesses with multiple branches around the country can have a single number that customers can use regardless of where they are. All numbers that start with 03 are designed for this purpose, but 0300 numbers are only available to charities and other not-for-profit organisations.

How much do they cost to call?

The idea with 03 numbers was to be clear about the costs for consumers.

All numbers that start with 03 cost the same to call as any standard landline phone with an 01 or 02 prefix. That means calling an 03 number costs the same as it does to call your family on their landline.

The beauty of this is that many people have mobile contracts that include a certain amount of calls to landline numbers. 03 numbers are included in these bundled minutes. So if you have unused minutes left on your contract, a call to an 03 number won’t cost you anything at all.

From landlines, calls to 03 numbers should cost no more than 16p per minute. If you don’t have inclusive calls with your mobile contract, then calls from a mobile can vary from 3p per minute up to 65p per minute, depending on your provider.

Which should you choose?

0330, 0333 and 0345 numbers all offer the same benefits to your business.

They allow you to provide your customers with a single point of contact across your entire business, that won’t cost them any more than it would to call a standard landline. Which you go for really depends on personal preference.

0333 and 0345 numbers are probably a little easier to remember, but 0330 numbers are hardly impossible to recall. It’s always a good idea to try to find a memorable number so that your customers can easily bring it to mind without the need to look it up.
