Boosting Britain’s Broadband
3rd January 2017Superfast broadband is becoming a reality for many homes up and down the country, with BT having spend the last 6 years installing the technology in roughly 95% of British homes thanks to a government backed deal which aims to greatly improve the country’s infrastructure.
Part of the deal struck between BT and the government included a clause that if 20% or more of newly connected homes signed up to superfast broadband, BT would have to repay part of the subsidy they initially received. Astonishingly, the average take-up has been 30.6% according to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, meaning BT will have to repay roughly £292m. This subsidy repayment, along with money from ‘efficient savings’, is intended to be re-invested to make the service available to 97% of homes by 2020.
So what does this mean for you?
Well, if you’re one of the 95%, or 97% by 2020, you’ll be able to stream TV on multiple devices at one time, enjoy seamless video calling and load internet pages in record time. It also means that if your current connection is often patchy and fickle, you should see a dramatic increase in reliability.
Luckily, you can take advantage of the great services offered by Planet Numbers wherever you live, even without superfast broadband!
