Raising Money for a Great Cause

27th March 2013

Here at Planet Numbers we have a bit of a tradition of dress-down Friday, on which employees can leave the suits at home for a day, and come in wearing standard every day clothes. In exchange for this privilege we all bring in £1 a week and add it to a pot, with the intention of giving it all to charity.

The day has come to donate our raised money, with our boss doubling the total to £416. We have chosen to donate this amount to Deafblind UK – a charity specialising in helping those with combined sight and hearing loss.

As specialists in the telecoms industry, we have been trying to improve the technology that surrounds communication. It is our hope that our donation will enable other people to communicate successfully in the long term.

Deafblind UK estimates that there are currently 356,000 deaf and blind people – 220,000 of which are over 70 years old. The Department of Health states that “people who have dual sensory loss are among those who are most disabled by the norms of our society”. The loss of both hearing and sight creates a special set of needs.

We hope that our donation can go someway to supporting Deafblind UK and all the work they do for people around the country.
