Sponsored Plane Pull

30th August 2011

This weekend we were delighted to take part in sponsoring Dorset’s plane pull to raise money for two very important charities.

One being the East Dorset & New Forest branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association, this charity helps with supporting people with MND and also their family and friends. MND is a neurological condition that destroys the Motor Neurones and that in turn affects the muscles leaving people unable to do the everyday things the rest of us take for granted. Walking, talking and swallowing may become very difficult, yet the mind and senses are rarely affected.

Another being John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation, this charity helps with advancing the lives of, and help, young people who are studying at Ferndown Upper School, are members of the Air Cadets’ Dorset & Wiltshire Wing, or who are members of the Air Cadet Junior Leaders’ Course. They do this by providing financial assistance for, especially but not exclusively, leisure time activities and pursuits, so as to develop their capabilities that they may grow to full maturity as individuals and members of society.

The event involved teams of up to 20 people attempting to pull Boeing 737 weighing in at around 39,000 Kg over a distance of 50 meters. The event was held at Bournemouth airport with live entertainment from a local band, food and drink stands and also exhibits to keep everyone amused throughout the day.

Here’s a picture of the band performing…
